Freedom Seekers Educational Program – 1492-1744
Old Florida Museum no longer offers our Black History programs during Black History Month.
We feel this subject is too important and we now offer it year-round.
This program is similar to the Spanish Colonial Program but focusses more on Fort Mose and the freed black soldiers of the period.
During the building of the New World, Spain, France and Britain fought for control. As commerce grew, the need for laborers grew as well and the supply came from places like Africa and indigenous people. The slave trade was established. This is a program about FREEDOM and how it came about. The journey starts in 1492 through the 1740s.
This program could include any of the following topics during your visit:
• Age of Exploration
• Spanish Periods and it’s Influence in Florida
